Understanding Faraday Cage Shielding
A Faraday Cage is an electrically conductive enclosure designed to limit the transmission of electromagnetic fields between its interior and the surrounding environment. The concept originates from Michael Faraday’s experiments, which demonstrated that a properly constructed conductive enclosure can effectively isolate a protected space from external electric fields.
Today, the term Faraday Cage covers a wide variety of shielding systems used in research laboratories, data centres, critical infrastructure, telecommunications facilities, industrial installations, defence projects and specialist medical environments.
Regardless of the construction method, the engineering objective remains the same: achieving the required Shielding Effectiveness (SE) while maintaining the electromagnetic integrity of the complete enclosure.
